Oldmine continued their regular season form to convincingly beat Central over 4 games and show they are truly the team to beat this season. Their 8-2 win was their 50th victory of the season, an astronomical number.

Oldmine played with poise and determination over the 4 game series, showing a steely determination and a eye for the main prize. There were no huge celebrations after their 8-2 drubbing of Central, mere hugs and handshakes. They knew the job had not been finished.

Portswood    2      3    6    1

Bracken        7      2     3    6

Bracken should’ve been contesting the Grand Series by now. Their inconsistency has belittled their fine performances in games 1 and 4. When they’re hot they’re a forest fire in the Amazon: nothing, but nothing, gets in their way.

Bracken can crush sides and they did this on their trip to Portswood and tonight’s game. But they can also be terrible, the worst team in the league, a corpuscle of laziness and incompetence. What happened to them in game two? Portswood stumbled across the line, in spite of their poor performance. Bracken were even worse. That psychologically carried through to the next game and Portswood overpowered them over the 9 innings.

Bracken got their mojo back tonight and though they have to play the decider at Portswood tomorrow, they might be the only team who can match it with Oldmine.
